Cost and Success Rates for Alcohol & Drug Rehab

Residential treatment for alcohol rehabilitation requires confinement in a treatment facility and may last from 28 days to one year. The typical treatment is about a month. This is available for adolescents as well as adults. “Detox” is the first line of treatment and consists of several days of detoxifying the body of alcohol. Because of the dependence of the body and brain on alcohol, detox can be dangerous and is best done under medical supervision in a residential or hospital setting. Alcoholism often begins with emotional and mental problems as the root of the urge to self-medicate. Psychological therapies are used to determine the root of the problem and help the patients heal themselves at the psychological level. Coping techniques are taught as well.

The course of treatment may vary according to the type of drug rehab chosen. There are treatment facilities that take a holistic approach to treatment by focusing on the mind, body and spirit.

This type of drug rehab treatment does not confine the patient to the facility but rather works based on counseling, medical care and classes. When the patient seeks help, several factors are studied to determine which type of treatment is best for the individual. Outpatient treatment is often recommended as an alternative to residential confinement or as a precursor to residential treatment and/or a follow-up to in-house alcohol rehabilitation. Family support, work and psychological factors all play a role in determining if outpatient treatment is indicated in lieu of residential treatment.

This program was put together as a support for recovering alcoholics. There are meetings held all over at various times of the day and evening and all 7 days of the week. A 12-step program, AA focuses on self and public acknowledgement of alcoholism and taking personal responsibility for allowing alcohol to determine behavior. The application of "The Serenity Prayer" is fundamental to AA.

The Cost of Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs

The average cost of outpatient treatment is about 2,000 dollars and residential treatment averages twice as much. Insurance often covers the cost of treatment. Alcoholics Anonymous does not charge a set fee but rather asks that participants donate to the fund on a regular basis.

Alcohol Rehabilitation: Statistics and Factors Involved in Success

Success is ultimately determined by the individual's dedication to remaining sober and the support of family, friends and other recovering alcoholics. The success rates for residential treatment ranges from two to 30 percent. AA is encouraged as lifelong support and does increase success rates for staying sober over the long-term.
